How long is a JD at Harvard?

The J.D. degree requires three years of full-time study, and new students begin their studies only in the fall semester of each year. Apart from for practicing lawyers, we have no part-time, distance, on-line or summer programs. Does HLS offer any part-time or summer programs?
What is a 2L at Harvard Law School?

How many hours a week is 1L?
Law school advisers typically recommend that 1Ls study at least two hours for every hour they are in class. The typical 1L will have 15 credit hours both semesters, so going by the 2:1 rule the typical 1L should study for at least 30 hours a week.
What is a 3L?
1L, 2L, 3L: In undergrad, your year in school is usually referred to as freshman, sophomore, etc. In law school, we use 1L to refer to first year, 2L to second year, 3L to third year. Your law school might have a part time division, and in that case, some students might be referred to as 4Ls as well.
What do you do in 2L?
The 2L summer is a bit different. Many students spend their 2L summer in a paid position at a place where they eventually hope to work, whether that’s at a law firm, a district attorney’s office or public defender’s office, a government agency, or a public interest legal organization.
How many hours do Harvard law students study?
What this means is that a traditional law student may spend 15 hours in class + 20 hours at work + 20 or more hours outside of class studying, which nets them about a 55+ hour week. Students who take tougher courses, work more hours, or who may have other duties, will see work weeks approaching 65 to 80 per week.

How do I enroll in a 1L course?
All 1L students must enroll in a 1L January Experiential Term (JET) course and an upper-level spring elective. Registration for those courses will take place in two separate registration rounds; all course preferences will be entered via HELIOS.
What is the role of the 1L section staff?
