What is a bullnose architrave?
Porta’s Bullnose Architrave features a detailed bullnose profile design. This serves as a decorative trim around door frames and windows. They are designed to hide the gap between the wall and the door jamb or the window frame. They are also used as skirting boards where the wall meets the floor.
Should architrave be wider than skirting?
We would normally recommend that the skirting is approximately double the width of the architrave. For example if your architrave is 90mm wide the skirting should be at least 180mm high. Darker skirting will be more noticeable than white painted so this should be considered when choosing the height.

How do you choose architrave size?
There is a two-pronged approach for choosing your architrave size, and these are by the height of your doors and the height of your skirting boards.
Are architraves necessary?
Architraves are not structurally necessary as they do not support the frame of a window or a door, and they do not hold any of the building materials together. What an architrave does is give your home a finished look. Windows and doors without architraves can look dull, bare, and exposed.
Can architrave be thinner than skirting?
You’ll always need to choose the same thickness (or thicker) as your skirtings for your architraves. This is so the architraves don’t sit back from the skirting boards. If you’re using plinth blocks between the skirting and architrave, the architrave just needs to be thinner than the plinth block.
Do you fit architrave before plastering?
We always recommend fitting skirting and architraves after the plaster has dried. If you are applying backing plasters e.g; Bonding Coat etc..
What do you do when skirting is thicker than architrave?
A solution to this would be plinth blocks. Due to them being thicker than the skirtings and architraves, you have more ‘give’ so achieving a flush and clean finish is much easier. This also means you can use the same thickness architraves as the skirting boards whilst using a thicker plinth block to join them together.
Does architrave go on before skirting?
Quite simply skirting boards are used to cover the join between the wall and the floor, whilst architrave is used to edge interior doors, windows and loft hatches. If you’re fitting architrave and skirting then fit the architrave first.

Do you have to Prime a bullnose architrave?
