SUSPA® GmbH We are present internationally: In addition to our plants in Altdorf and Sulzbach-Rosenberg in Germany, we have additional plants in the Czech republic, USA, China and India. Every year, we produce about 100 million parts in around 1,500 versions. Approximately 1,900 employees worldwide help us to do this.
How do gas springs work?
Push on a gas spring and you force the piston rod and piston into the cylinder and this compresses the gas. Stop pressing and let go and the pressure of the gas pushes the piston back out again.
How do you calculate gas springs?
FORCE = (W x Y) / (Z x N) N = Number of springs. If you do not have all of the necessary information to use the above formula, you can use our estimated force calculation. With either method of determining force, you will need to know the weight of the object you are moving.
What angle do you mount gas struts?
This will normally be around 10° to 30° from fully closed. In practice, this will vary by several degrees between opening and closing, due to factors such as friction of the internal components of the spring, hinges and end connectors.
Can you repair a gas spring?
Gas springs are self-contained units that require no periodic maintenance or service beyond being kept clean and dry. Lubrication of the spring is internal and no external lubrication is required. Repair of gas springs is not possible as loss of force is caused by main seal damage and gas springs should be replaced.
Can you rebuild gas springs?
How do you size gas shocks?
In general the length to choose for gas struts is about 55% of the height of the door you are trying to keep open. So if you have a door that is 1000mm in height a 550mm long gas strut would be about right. In simple terms we are talking half the door height plus a bit when determining optimal gas strut length.
How do I know which gas struts to use?
To calculate the size and the force of the Gas Strut you require for your application use the following guidelines. The extended length of the Gas Strut should be approximately 60% of the door or hatch length – e.g. a 1000mm high door should have a Gas Strut length of approximately 600mm.
Can you lubricate gas struts?
Do not lubricate a gas strut. They contain oil for damping and self-lubrication. Do not puncture or incinerate.
Does it matter which way you install a gas strut?
Note: – Always install after painting, welding etc. – The gas strut should always be fitted with the piston pointing down.
Do gas struts work both ways?
Office chair gas struts are nearly always lockable one way or another, although it’s worth noting that the locking mechanism is sometimes entirely separate from the spring itself.
