How do I know if my livewell pump is bad?
If you hear the pump running, it may be worn out, and unable to pump water because the impeller is too worn. Just to be sure, check and make sure there’s no crossover switch that’s on recirculate, instead of auto fill. There might also be some debris in the pump.
Can you run a livewell pump dry?
Livewell pumps, like bilge pumps, can be run dry with no damage, unlike macerators.
How do you clean a livewell pump?
Fill the livewell at least three-quarters full. Pour all of the the vinegar and peroxide into the livewell. Then turn on the recirculating pump to thoroughly mix the water and cleaning agents. Use the brush to scrub all parts and surfaces of the livewell, including the screens and the well side of the drain plug.
Why does my live well fill up with water?
This happens when water pours in faster than it drains. Either your pump is working harder than it should, or your drain is clogged. Your Legend Boats’ livewell comes equipped with a flow adjustment to control how much water pumps in. Turn this down to the desired level if you find your livewell overflowing.
How do you get the smell out of Livewells?
The simplest way to keep your livewells clean is to flush them out with fresh city water after each trip. Just stick your garden hose into the tank, fill it up, purge out any biological debris, recirculate the water for a few minutes, drain it out and then leave your well open so that it dries thoroughly.
I have an icecream pail that has a hole in the side near the bottom. the hole just slides over the livewell pump, secure with the screen. fill the bucket then turn it on. if it sprays water and empties the icecream pail then the pump is good. if the pump runs and does nothing, then the pump is bad
How long should a rule pump last?
Although Rule pumps aren’t what they used to be, I still expect at least a year or two of service from the pump head. I always install two just in case one fails.
Does a live well pump need priming?

Do I need a rule pump for my baitwell?
When running your pickup should push water to the baitwell without the pump running. I’ve rigged many baitwell pumps and prefer a thru hull fitting with a clamshell bottom pointing forward. Although Rule pumps aren’t what they used to be, I still expect at least a year or two of service from the pump head.
