How long does it take for the bladder to heal after TURP surgery?

It usually takes between 3 and 4 weeks to fully recover from a TURP. Your surgeon or GP will advise you about when it’s safe to return to your normal activities.

Is TURBT surgery painful for women?

Most women do not have much pain after this surgery. You may feel like your bladder is full. You may feel pressure, spasms, or burning, until your catheter is taken out. If you have pain or discomfort in the surgery area, your nurse will give you pain control medication to help.

Most people can go home the day of surgery or the following day. Side effects from TURBT may include bloody urine or pain during urination. These symptoms usually last only a few days. You should be able to get back to your normal schedule in two weeks.

I had my TURP on June 1, 2016. Procedure went well, in OR less than 2 hours. Got pictures from my urologist with before and after surgery. Stayed overnight in  hospital. Did not have much pain at all and had 3-way catheter for continius bladder irrigation. Did not bleed much. Next morning urologist came to see me and removed catheter.
