Can you have too much limited-slip additive?
If you add too much limited slip additive, you’ll notice your wheels will break loose super easy and you’ll get wheel-spin just making turns from a stop. If you make that mistake (like I did), just drain the oil and refill and you’ll be good.
Do you need limited-slip additive with synthetic oil?
Should I use a friction-modifier additive with AMSOIL synthetic gear lube? AMSOIL synthetic gear lubes are limited-slip capable and do not typically require an additional friction-modifier additive. However, depending on the differential’s friction material and degree of clutch wear, chatter can still sometimes occur.
What is limited slip additive made of?
LUBEGARD® LIMITED SLIP SUPPLEMENT contains proprietary and synthetic LXE® (liquid wax ester) Technology, an advanced friction modifier to eliminate chatter. It contains rust and corrosion inhibitors to protect bearings and gear surfaces.
What is the purpose of limited-slip additive?
Kendall® Limited-Slip Axle Additive Concentrate is a special additive used to modify the frictional characteristics of axle lubricants for use in limited-slip differentials. It helps to eliminate chatter in limited-slip differentials when added to non-limited-slip API GL-5 gear lubricants.
What does a limited-slip additive do?
Limited-slip or Positraction units use plates or clutches to provide the proper amount of lock-up to the differential. Slippery lubricants are required to prevent chatter, but too much slipperiness causes excess wheel spin, reducing traction.
Is limited-slip additive a friction modifier?
Limited-Slip Friction Modifier – 4oz Slippery lubricants are required to prevent chatter, but too much slipperiness causes excess wheel spin, reducing traction. For perfect traction, use Red Line 75W90NS and add the Red Line Limited-Slip Differential Friction-Modifier / Break-In Additive until the chatter disappears.
